The ingredients most worth avoiding are those linked to hormone disruption, skin irritation, or long-term toxicity: parabens, phthalates, synthetic fragrance, mineral oil, sulfates (SLS/SLES), formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, PEGs, and artificial dyes. At Edenwild, these are all on our Never List — not because they're trendy to avoid, but because we've reviewed the research and chosen not to use them in anything we make.

"Natural" means ingredients come from nature — but natural doesn't automatically mean safe or effective. "Clean" skincare means formulating without ingredients known or suspected to be harmful, regardless of whether they're natural or synthetic. At Edenwild, we hold both standards: our ingredients are botanically sourced and held to a clean formulation standard. Our Never List is the line we don't cross.

Toxicity in skincare comes in several forms: endocrine disruption (interfering with hormones), bioaccumulation (building up in the body over time), skin sensitization (triggering immune reactions), and carcinogenicity (cancer risk with repeated exposure). Many ingredients on our Never List fall into one or more of these categories. The skin is the body's largest organ — what you put on it matters.

Yes. Every Edenwild formula is built around ingredients that are biocompatible, non-irritating, and free from the most common sensitizers — synthetic fragrance, sulfates, parabens, and artificial dyes. Many of our products are specifically formulated for eczema-prone, reactive, and baby skin. If you have a known allergy or sensitivity, we always recommend reviewing the full ingredient list for your specific product.

No — and this distinction matters. "Fragrance-free" means no fragrance ingredients were added. "Unscented" often means masking fragrances were used to neutralize odor, which means synthetic fragrance compounds can still be present. At Edenwild, when we say a product is unscented, we mean it contains no added fragrance of any kind — synthetic or otherwise.

Synthetic fragrance is one of the most problematic ingredients in personal care. The word "fragrance" on a label can legally represent a blend of hundreds of undisclosed chemicals — many of which are known allergens, hormone disruptors, or irritants. Phthalates, commonly used to make fragrance last longer, are linked to endocrine disruption. We never use synthetic fragrance in any Edenwild product.

Mineral oil is a petroleum byproduct that sits on top of skin rather than absorbing into it. While it's not acutely toxic, it creates an occlusive barrier that can trap bacteria, clog pores, and prevent skin from breathing or absorbing beneficial ingredients. It also offers no nutritional value to skin. We choose plant-based oils that nourish, absorb, and workwiththe skin's biology — not against it.

Parabens are synthetic preservatives used to extend shelf life. Research has found parabens in human breast tissue, and studies suggest they mimic estrogen and may disrupt hormonal function. While regulatory bodies consider low concentrations "safe," the cumulative exposure from using multiple paraben-containing products daily is a legitimate concern — especially for children and pregnant women. We don't use them. Period.
