What ingredients should I avoid in skincare?
Edenwild's Never List is our answer to this. The ingredients most worth avoiding are those linked to hormone disruption, skin irritation, or buildup in the body: parabens, phthalates, synthetic fragrance, mineral oil, sulfates (SLS/SLES), formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, PEGs, and artificial dyes. All of them are on our Never List. Not because they're trendy to avoid, but because we've reviewed the research and chosen not to use them in anything we make.
Are Edenwild products safe for sensitive skin?
Edenwild's Never List leaves out the most common skin sensitizers, including synthetic fragrance, sulfates, parabens, and artificial dyes, so our formulas are made for sensitive skin. Many are formulated with eczema-prone, reactive, and baby skin in mind. Every formula is also free of gluten and soy. Everyone's skin is different, so if you have a known allergy or sensitivity, we always recommend reviewing the full ingredient list for your specific product.
Does "natural" mean safe for your skin?
Not automatically. "Natural" tells you where an ingredient comes from, not how your skin will respond. Bismuth oxychloride is mineral-derived and often marketed as natural, yet it's a documented irritant for sensitive and reactive skin. At Edenwild, natural origin is only the starting point. We choose ingredients people have trusted on skin for generations, then hold every one to our Never List.
Why does Edenwild avoid synthetic fragrance?
Synthetic fragrance is one of the most common skin irritants in conventional skincare, and one of the least regulated. The word "fragrance" on a label can legally represent a blend of hundreds of undisclosed chemicals, including known allergens and irritants. Phthalates, often used to make fragrance last longer, are studied for hormone disruption. We never use synthetic fragrance. Every scented Edenwild product uses only herbs and essential oils. Nothing hidden. Nothing synthetic.
Are "fragrance-free" and "unscented" the same thing?
No, and the difference matters. "Fragrance-free" means no fragrance ingredients were added. "Unscented" often means masking fragrances were used to neutralize odor, so synthetic fragrance compounds can still be present. At Edenwild, when we say a product is unscented, it contains no added fragrance of any kind, synthetic or otherwise.
Are parabens safe in skincare products?
Parabens are synthetic preservatives used to extend shelf life. They've been detected in human tissue and studied for their ability to mimic estrogen. Regulators consider low concentrations acceptable, but parabens show up in many daily products, and that exposure adds up. We chose to leave them out. Everything we make is meant for daily use by the whole family, so parabens aren't part of any Edenwild formula.
